Wow, that’s really all we can say. With glitter still on some of our faces, (okay, okay, Coach Lisa scrubbed hard but it’s still there) no rain, but sun and smoke from wildfires (what is with this year). We think it’s pretty safe to say we’re all still on a big high.
It was a fantastic way to finish out the season and we know we couldn’t be more proud of our sharks. Determination, adapting to the conditions ALL season, including finally having some warm and humid weather (while not being acclimated to it). Asking for nutrition after being hounded all season, learning to dump bottles on the fly and knowing now cool downs are important.

A big thank you again to the parents, set up, making sure coaches ate, chocolate milk in hands and being there for ALL the kids in all the conditions. Thanks to Coach Doug for doing a ton of mechanic duties and then still helping in the feed zone.
We are so lucky to be in such a wonderful, supportive and encouraging community here in Syracuse AND across New York.

Special Mentions
8th Grade Boys – At the start of the race, Ben, Nathan, Aidyn and Cyril were caught in a tumble, but they stayed calm and collected and worked their way through the field. Nathan was moving up and looking VERY strong when he put some power down (strong kids we have here) and his rear derailleur hanger literally ripped apart and he broke his chain. We are SO proud of him, many of us have been there when our equipment has failed us and we have been having a great day. Very frustrating.
Laney Poole – Miss Laney, our only senior at all of the races this year – fought like a true champion at every race. This race she told Coach Lisa she wanted to always respect the podium which is why when offered she always finished the race. Laney has been instrumental in the Sharks success at these races when Tim asked her years ago to race for the team. Laney will be missed but she’s already vocalized many times to Coaches Nicky and Lisa that she wants to be a coach with the Sharks next year.

Paige Civitella – We are so proud of Paige, she conquered some anxiety and raced anyway – this is a BIG step for anyone, let alone a freshman in HS – I think many of us know the self imposed pressure we can put on ourselves. We think the race pictures show it all, she had a huge smile on her face and had fun, which is what we want for all our kids at the end of the day.
Jon Taber – While Jon wasn’t at Ontario Park with us, he was racing up in Canada and was able to nab some UCI points! Congrats Jon!
